ER Visit and Potty Training

Drew started complaining Thursday evening that his lower back and left leg were hurting him. By Friday morning his back was not hurting much but his leg was bothering him a lot and by Friday night he was not able to sit at all and standing was very painful. We figured that he had pinched something in his spine again so he went to the Chiropractor Friday and then again Saturday morning but when that did not do much we knew it was going to be awhile before he started feeling better.

I called mom and dad and thankfully they were able to come up and help with Emma so that I did not have to take care of her and Drew. Unfortunately Emma is still not quite old enough to understand what is going on with Drew which made things even harder.

Saturday evening/night Drew decided that he could not take the pain anymore so I took him into the ER and they told us that he has sciatica which is an inflammation of the sciatic nerve. They gave him an Anti-inflammatory shot and a morphine shot and then gave him a couple vicodin pills. After that they gave us a prescription for some more vicodin and some Ibuprofen and sent us back home.

Drew had another chiropractor appt this morning and will have one again tomorrow. He said that the pain is a little better and I can tell that he is moving around better which is good. For now though he is not able to go into work and we are not sure what is going to happen for Thanksgiving. As of right now he would not be able to do the 3 hour car ride to get to Jasper.

For some good news Emma is doing GREAT with potty training and for the most part we are considering her potty trained. She had two poop accidents last week but did not have single pee accident. If the babysitter could just get her to sit on the potty long enough to get the job done then there would be no accidents at all. She is funny though. The other kids at the babysitter are all boys so Emma had some trouble figuring out why she can not stand up and pee like the boys do. Right now she likes to climb on the potty backwards which is really cute.


Hopefully Drew will be well enough that we can make it to Jasper for Thanksgiving.
