Welcoming Baby Emma

Well our wait is finally over. Drew and I welcomed Emma Elizabeth Schroering into the world late Sunday night. Emma was born at 11:31pm on 2/8/09 weighing in at 7lbs 2oz and 20 inches long. I went into labor around 9am Sunday morning and we headed to the hospital around 12:30. Originally I was going to try and do without an epidural because I do not like my back messed with but by around 3pm I was having trouble breathing though the contractions and Drew was telling me it felt like I was going to break his hand. After the epidural I was feeling no pain and things went pretty quick. We were released from the hospital a little before midnight last night and have been settling in at home today.

Thankfully Emma has been a very good baby and has not had a lot of fussy spells. She has been feeding around every 3 hours with a little longer in between at night which is great for getting some sleep. When we left the hospital she weighed 6lbs 14oz which the Dr. said was really great. They expect most babies to drop up to 10% of their birth weight before starting to gain and she had only dropped about 3% so far.

As for what Jessie thinks about our new little addition, we have had Emma on the floor some today so that Jessie could check her out. Jessie has come over and will give her a few kisses but otherwise she lets her alone. We have managed to get some really cute pictures of Jessie with Emma though.

Overall everything is going really well. My back is pretty sore but otherwise I have not had any major problems after giving birth. It did take several hours after she was born however before all of the numbness went away. And now for what everybody wants here are some pictures of our bundle of joy.
